What Colors Do Miniature Schnauzers Come In?
The U.S. breed standard recognizes three colors: Salt & Pepper, Solid Black, and Black & Silver. Solid blacks are entirely black with a black undercoat, except they may have a small white patch on the chest. When the Salt & Peppers are machine clipped, the characteristic banded hairs disappear and they become a solid shade of gray, which can vary from a very light gray to dark slate gray. Some people will refer to dogs who have a very light gray undercoat as "Silver," but they are "officially" Salt & Pepper.
These three colors: Salt & Pepper, Solid Black, and Black & Silver are the only three colors are allowed in the show ring at this time. However, the American Kennel Club does register other colors.
We have Miniatures Schnauzers that will come in a variety of colors. The colors we specialize in include: Salt and Pepper, Solid Black, Black and Silver, Black and White (Phantom), White, Silver, Salt &Pepper Parti, Black Parti, Liver Parti, Liver/Chocolate, and Liver Pepper.
What size do miniature schnauzers come in?
According to the Breed Standard for the Miniature Schnauzer the breed standard calls for the height at the withers or shoulder blades to be at least 12" and no more than 14". These are the standards they look for when showing a miniature schnauzer. The Breed Standard does not specify any particular weight for the breed. The weight depends on their size and bone structure but, a dog measuring 12" to 14" will typically be between 11 to 20 lbs.

Toy Size
Some breeders are now producing Miniature Schnauzers that are under 12" tall. Many people are using the term "toy to describe them. However, the "toy" schnauzer is not a separate breed from the Miniature Schnauzer. It is simply an undersized Miniature Schnauzer. This "toy' size will be registered as Miniature Schnauzer even though it is under 12 inches tall. You cannot show this undersized miniature schnauzer. If they are under 12 inches tall they will never be allowed to enter the show ring. They typically weigh 10 pounds and under.

We do occassionally have "toy" size schnauzers available from time to time. However, we do not specialize in "toy" size schnauzers. We specialize in the standard miniature schnauzer size. Although, both sizes make exceptional pets!
